1601 – 1650 AD 

1601 AD — The Torre del Reloj (Clock Tower) of Cartagena*, Colombia, is built. 1603 AD — Queen Elizabeth I dies.

1606 AD — Willem Janszoon and the Dutch East India Company make the first European landfall in Australia.

1607 AD — Jamestown becomes the first permanent English colony in North America.

1608 AD — Quebec City* is founded by Samuel de Champlain. The Old City is still cherished as the most European locale in North America.

1625 AD — New Amsterdam is founded by the Dutch West Indies Company in North America.

1633 AD — Galileo’s trial takes place in Rome

1636 AD — Harvard University is founded in Cambridge, Massachusetts.

1641 AD — The Irish Rebellion occurs

1642 AD — The Fifth Dalai Lama assumes power in Tibet.

1644 AD — Manchu defeats the Ming Dynasty in China. The Qing Dynasty begins its rule which lasts until 1912.
