Mammoth Cave National Park claims to be the largest cave system in the world. Whether that is true or not, it is certainly extensive and fascinating, as all caves tend to be. Although park literature tries to encourage visitors to sample the above ground facilities, the cave is the reason that people come here, and it is the feature that is memorable.
As in other parks of this type, there are several different tours which are available, offering various degrees of difficulty and sampling various sections of the cave system. Choose the one which seems to best suit your level of conditioning.
We enjoyed the various “rooms” within the cave, some of which featured unusual and different types of formations, such as the traditional stalagtites and stalagmites,
and others which are somewhat stranger.
Check out these formations as well.
