Paris is one of the most romantic and exciting places on Earth. Visitors can easily spend a week or more to sample the must-sees in this wonderful city. Perhaps the most rewarding activity is to simply sit at an outdoor cafe on the West Bank, people-watching. So here are my favorites sights in the magical “City of Lights.”
The Eiffel Tower is considered one of the Seven Modern Wonders of the World and is deserving of all its accolades.
The Arc d’Triomphe is a tribute to Napoleon’s military campaigns. It sits at the nexus of eight (8) broad avenues,
among them, one of the world’s great streets, the Champs Elysses.
The Louvre showcases one of the world’s greatest collections of art. Don’t even think of trying to tackle the entire museum in one day; rather, plan your attack ahead of time or upon arrival. Spend time in a few galleries, and then return on subsequent days to see the rest.
Among the hundreds of great works are the Mona Lisa, considered by many the best painting in the history of Art (it sits behind thick glass since an attempt to damage the painting),
If you are looking for a quiet place to escape for a while, check out the Luxembourg Palace and Gardens.
The most famous church in Paris is Notre Dame Cathedral, of “Hunchback of Notre Dame” fame. It certainly is spectacular, both outside and in.
Another prominent church is Sacre Coeur, a pure white structure on a hill to the north of the city, with a fantastic view of Paris.
Nearby is the Montmartre section of the city, a place frequented by artists.
The Number One excursion from Paris is a visit to Versailles, perhaps the most elaborate palace in the world.
Its Hall of Mirrors is especially ornate and formal.
