Texas, the largest of the continental forty-eight states, is about 1,000 miles across. Unfortunately, even though I drove that entire one thousand miles, along Interstate 10, I have seen very little of the state. Our only stop, except for gas, was in San Antonio, a great city, but only one of many.

    So my perspective on the best sights is skewed, and, perhaps, someday I will return and do the state justice. But San Antonio was a wonderful place. We were truly moved by the story of the Alamo
