Best of Zhouzhuang

The town of Zhouzhuang, like Suzhou, lies approximately 90 miles west of Shanghai and is another popular excursion from the big city. It is one of several charming towns known as “water villages” because of an extensive canal system within the town environs. Like “little Venices,” these villages entice tourists with their tranquility, a contrast to the typical concept of a Chinese town.

We took a boat cruise through town which was very relaxing.

A walk along the narrow streets of town reveals other charming attributes, like this adorable square.

Bicycles are a common method of transport in China; this scene seems to capture the essence of a lovely Chinese village.
