Why Go to Heidelberg?

Every tourist destination has it’s attractions. However, because every tourist is different, these attractions have greater or lesser value. In this series Gary’s gives his reasons for traveling to a particular place. Hopefully some of his thoughts will entice you to consider adding this particular place to your itinerary. Heidelberg lies along the Neckar River, in western-central Germany. It is typically associated with the old and prestigious university that bears its name. It Old Town is enchanting and pleasant to stroll through. Spend some time in this medieval city for at least the following reasons:

1. Karl’s Gate is a triumphal arch leading into the Old Town.

2. Heidelberg Castle looms, in ruin, over the city.

3. The Old Stone Bridge spans the Neckar River, at the entrance to the Old Town.
