Why Go to Munich?

Every tourist destination has it’s attractions. However, because every tourist is different, these attractions have greater or lesser value. In this series Gary’s gives his reasons for traveling to a particular place. Hopefully some of his thoughts will entice you to consider adding this particular place to your itinerary. Munich is THE major tourist Mecca in southern Germany. As the capital of Bavaria, Munich provides easy access to the Romantic Road and its enchanting villages. As the home of the Wittelsbach family, the city had enormous wealth and influence, a fact which has contributed to the elegance of the city. Munich should be part of everyone’s visit to Germany for at least the following reasons:

1. Munich’s Main Square, the Marienplatz, is a major gathering place for tourists and locals alike.

2. The downtown palace of the Wittelsbach family is called the Residenz. It is a large complex of buildings.

3. Of course, there is also the obligatory summer residence on the outskirts of the city. In this case, it is called Nymphenburg and is typically posh and elegant.

4. The Deutches Museum is one of the best science museums in the world. There are numerous interactive exhibits.
