Why Go to St Paul?

Every tourist destination has its attractions. However, because every tourist is different, these attractions have greater or lesser value. In this series Gary gives his reasons for traveling to a particular place. Hopefully some of his thoughts will entice you to consider adding this particular location to your itinerary. The entire series is being categorized under the heading, “Spotlights.” However, you may find more about these locations in the archives of this website, under headings such as, “Great Places,” “Things to Do in,” “Best of,” “Top 10″ and “Places of a Lifetime.” In addition, “Walking Tours” of many of these destinations may be available for purchase on the website for the low price of $1.49 each.

St Paul is the smaller and more charming of the “twin cities.” It is also the Minnesota state capital. We loved St Paul and found the city enchanting and worth several days. Include St Paul in your midwestern excursion for at least the following reasons:

1. The Minnesota State House sports the second largest dome in the United States, after the US Capitol, and is a beautiful building, attractively showcased by its location.

2. Across from the state house is the St Paul Cathedral, a gorgeous church, also lovingly silhouetted at the top of a hill.

3. Native son, Charles Schultz, creator of the Peanuts cartoon, is memorialized with sculptures of his characters in Rice Park, in front of the Landmark Center.

4. St Paul boasts the longest street with Victorian homes in the United States.
