Hidden Travel Gems of New York State

Beyond New York City, there are actually a number of other places in the state which are definitely worthwhile for the tourist I call these places “hidden travel gems.” Rent a car and venture beyond the city limits for some excellent additions to a vacation itinerary.

Finger Lakes Region — Spend some time along Interstate 88 and 86 to access this area northwest of New York City. There are wonderful natural places as well as adorable small towns, certainly enough to warrant a few days.

Watkins Glen State Park

Corning — The home of Corning Glass is a delightful town to explore. Main Street is interesting to stroll, while the Museum of Glass is captivating for both adults and children.

Cooperstown — The Baseball Hall of Fame is a must-see destination for anyone who appreciates the sport of baseball and its history. The town itself is adorable and worth several hours of exploration.

Saratoga Springs — The Mecca of horse racing fans in the month of August, Saratoga is a delightful city any time of the year. The downtown is charming and very pleasant to walk.

Hathorn Spring

West Point — The home of the US Military Academy has a lovely setting on the banks of the Hudson River.
