Lakes of the USA — Southwest

Lakes are large, fresh-water bodies of water, often associated with rivers or streams which feed or drain them. Mankind has created a huge variety of activities which can be enjoyed at lakes, including swimming, canoeing, fishing, etc. As such, lakes are popular vacation areas and draw millions of tourists annually. There are thousands of lakes around the world. A list of the Lakes of the USA includes some of the most well-known lakes on Earth.

Here are some notable Lakes of the USA which can be found in the southwestern section of the country.

Lake Powell, Utah/Arizona — Formed by the construction of the Glen Canyon Dam, Lake Powell is the second largest man-made reservoir in the USA. The area has been preserved as the Glen Canyon National Recreation Area and is a popular travel destination.

If you take the boat ride from Wahweap Marina you can access the largest natural arch in the world, Rainbow Bridge.

Lake Mead, Nevada/Arizona — The huge lake and reservoir created by the construction of the Hoover Dam is called Lake Mead.
