Spotlight on the Olympics — Summer 1904

Now that Boston (right down the road from us) was, for a short time, being considered for the 2024 Olympics, for the first time I might add, let’s take a look at the places where the Olympics have been held over the years.

The third Modern Day Olympics were held in St Louis, Missouri, USA. The games were actually awarded to Chicago but the city of St Louis, which was hosting a World Exposition in 1904, threatened to steal the spotlight by having its own world games, so the Olympic committee relented and held the games here. Few world-class athletes came since the location was difficult to reach. The Olympics began on July 1st and ended on November 23rd. The United States dominated the competition with 239 medals, 78 of which were gold.
