Spotlight on the Olympics — Summer 1908

Now that Boston (right down the road from us) was being considered, at least for a short period of time, for the 2024 Olympics, for the first time I might add, let’s take a look at the places where the Olympics have been held over the years.

1908 Summer Olympics — These games were originally awarded to Rome, Italy. However, when Mt Vesuvius erupted in 1906 and wreaked havoc on Naples, Italy decided to spend their money on the disaster, so the Olympic committee gave the games to London, England. They were the longest in Modern History, beginning on April 27th and ending on October 31st. Great Britain dominated the medal count winning a total of 146 medals, 56 of them gold.
