Spotlight on the Olympics — Summer 1936

Now that Boston (right down the road from us) was being considered, albeit for a short time, for the 2024 Olympics, for the first time I might add, let’s take a look at the places where the Olympics have been held over the years.

1936 Summer Olympics — These games were held in Berlin, Germany, under the auspices of German Chancellor, Adolf Hitler, who used the games to promote his racial superiority views. The games lasted from August 1st to August 16th. Jesse Owens of the United States was the overall star of the XI Olympiad with four (4) gold medals. Louis Zamperini, of Unbroken fame, did not win a medal but impressed all with his final sub-minute lap in the 5000 meter run. The host nation won the most medals (89) as well as the most gold (33).
