Spotlight on the Olympics — Summer 1980

Now that Boston (right down the road from us) was being considered, albeit for a short time, for the 2024 Olympics, for the first time I might add, let’s take a look at the places where the Olympics have been held over the years.

1980 Summer Olympics — Led by the United States, 65 countries boycotted these Olympics which were held in Moscow, Russia, as a way of protesting Russia’s invasion of Afghanistan. The games were held between July 19th thru August 3rd. Teofilo Stevenson, a boxer from Cuba won his third gold medal in the heavyweight division. The Soviet Union dominated the medal count with 80 gold of its 195 total.
