Writer, Katherine Butler Hathaway, said,

 

            "A person needs at intervals to separate from family and companions and go to new places. One must go without familiars in order to be open to influences, to change."

 

         Katherine’s recommendation then, is to travel alone, without friends and family, in order to truly be accepting of other cultures and ideas. I’m not sure I would agree that traveling alone is better than being with someone, but I can see her point, and I would certainly do it, if there were no one I could travel with. But lonliness is always a consideration, and I choose good company.
