Travel Quotation 56 – Lao Tzu

The oft-quoted Chinese philosopher makes a rather cryptic remark about traveling:

"Going on means going far, going far means returning."

To me, this means that you must always come back to your starting point, despite the length or duration of your voyage. Lao Tzu may be expressing, in his own inimitable way, that there is no place like home. And, certainly, it is hard to deny that this is true. Everyone relishes a return to the comfortable and familiar, no matter what wonderful things have been encountered on the journey.
