Travel Quotation 76 — Charles Horton Cooley

Charles Cooley, noted American sociologist, once said, “To get away from one’s working environment is, in a sense, to get away from one’s self; and this is often the chief advantage of travel and change.”

Obviously, Mr Cooley feels that it is healthy to get away from one’s comfort zone, the self’s nook, and to forge out into the world to experience new cultures and new places. To me, this is the greatest advantage of travel, to add new experiences, challenge one’s stereotypes, and to savor the differences in the various countries and regions in other parts of the world.
