Why Go to Maui?

Every tourist destination has its attractions. However, because every tourist is different, these attractions have greater or lesser value. In this series Gary gives his reasons for traveling to a particular place. Hopefully some of his thoughts will entice you to consider adding this particular location to your itinerary. The entire series is being categorized under the heading, “Spotlights.” However, you may find more about these locations in the archives of this website, under headings such as, “Great Places,” “Things to Do in,” “Best of,” “Top 10” and “Places of a Lifetime.” In addition, “Walking Tours” of many of these destinations may be available for purchase on the website for the low price of $1.49 each.

The beautiful island of Maui offers many attractions and activities for the tourist. The pace of life is slower here than on Oahu which encourages that more time be spent during a visit. Maui is an excellent place to visit for the following reasons:

1. Haleakala National Park provides a memorable experience either at sunrise, for a spectacular start to the day, or during the day, when visitors are treated to a bizarre landscape of colorful sand and cinder cones.

2. The Road to Hana offers a scenic and sometimes precipitous drive along the undulating north shore of the island with many opportunities to stop and/or explore the area.

3. Hawaii’s most famous luau can be found on Maui. The Lahaina Luau has delighted visitors to the island since 1986, offering authentic Native Hawaiian food and entertainment.
