Why Go to Providence?

Every tourist destination has its attractions. However, because every tourist is different, these attractions have greater or lesser value. In this series Gary gives his reasons for traveling to a particular place. Hopefully some of his thoughts will entice you to consider adding this particular location to your itinerary. Little Rhode Island is a gem, symbolized by its charming capital city, Providence. It is a great place to visit for the following reasons:

1. Waterfires is a unique series of events during which braziers in the middle of the Providence River are lit and accompanied with music, creating a delightful and unforgettable experience for all.

2. Providence’s Little Italy, actually Federal Hill, is a great place to stroll and/or to have an excellent meal.

3. A popular excursion from Providence is the seaside city of Newport, long a summer getaway for the rich and famous.
