Suzhou lies just west of Shanghai and is one of the most popular excursions from that city. It is famous for its traditional Chinese gardens, montages of rocks, landscaping, water, and small pavilions. Here you will find a large number of these gardens to choose from. We sampled two of the best on our trip.

      The Lion’s Grove Garden features many extremely interesting rock formations, although it maintains all the other elements of a traditional garden.

   The other garden that we visited is the much-acclaimed Humble Administrator’s Garden.

    Tranquility and contemplation are the theme here as well, with water acting to soothing frazzled nerves and foster reflection.
