Best of Victoria

The city of Victoria, British Columbia, located on the eastern edge of Vancouver Island, is the capital of the province and the most British of cities in Canada’s west.  It is a delightful city, pleasant to stroll, with a welcoming attitude and an elegant ambience. A walking tour of the city reveals many interesting sights.

The most prominent attraction in the city is the Parliament Building which overlooks the lovely harbor area.

Nearby is one of Canada’s classic hotels, built by the railroad to entice tourists. The Fairmont Princess Hotel fits nicely into the group which includes the Chateau Frontenac (Quebec City), and the Banff Springs (Banff) and others.

Bastion Square is one of the city most popular gathering places since it is surrounded with shops and restaurants.

Victoria’s City Hall is an impressive building.

The most popular excursion from Victoria is a visit to Butchart Gardens, one of the world’s premier gardens. The Sunken Garden is particularly enchanting.
