As in France and many other European countries, gardens are frequently associated with palaces and other grand residences. Austria is no exception. Some of the country’s most beautiful and celebrated gardens are found next to royal and palatial estates. Perhaps the most beautiful of these are the gardens of Schonbrunn, the summer palace of the Hapsburgs, in Vienna. The gardens are extensive and adorned with fountains and an impressive gloriette.
Salzburg is a major destination in Austria because it was the birthplace of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and also the setting for much of the movie, The Sound of Music. Mirabell Palace, in Salzburg, features gardens which were highlighted in the film.
