Luxembourg City is a place that reminds travelers of war. The Benelux countries, Luxembourg, along with Brussels and the Netherlands, have been overrun repeatedly during European armed struggles. But Luxembourg City is about more than war and fortifications. It is a charming and vibrant city, pleasant to walk. Include Luxembourg City in your Benelux plans for at least the following reasons:
1. Luxembourg is a duchy and the Grand Duke’s residence is an important stop on the typical tourist’s agenda.
2. The Main Square of Luxembourg City, Place d’Armes, is crowded with people at all times of the day and is appropriately lined with shops and restaurants.
3. City fortifications are an attraction here, especially along the river that separates the Old Town from the newer section.
