Conveniently located about an hours drive from San Francisco, Monterey offers the best of California. The rocky coastline is spectacular and features glorious waterfront mansions. The town combines history with charm and is delightful to explore. Definitely add Monterey to your California trip for at least the following reasons:
1. Seventeen-Mile Drive offers travelers a gorgeous rocky coastline as well as a peek at the homes of the ultra-rich. Pebble Beach Golf Club, one of the world’s most beautiful and most difficult golf courses, can be found here.
2. John Steinbeck, one of America’s greatest novelists, wrote about Cannery Row in Monterey. This section of warehouses and fish-processing plants has now been converted into a charming shopping district.
3. History abounds in this maritime city on lovely Monterey Bay.
4. Spanish architecture is also well-represented in Monterey.
