Salzburg, Austria is located in the western part of the country, near the German border. This is the place where Mozart was born, and the composer is celebrated throughout the city. It was also the setting for the musical, The Sound of Music. Include Salzburg in your Austrian plans for at least the following reasons:
1. Mozart’s birthplace is one of Salzburg’s most visited attractions.
2. The city’s castle, Hohensalzburg, has never been stormed.
3. Maria and the children in the Sound of Music played in the Mirabell Gardens.
4. Salzburg sits lovingly on the Salzbach River.
