Why Go to York PA?

Every tourist destination has its attractions. However, because every tourist is different, these attractions have greater or lesser value. In this series Gary gives his reasons for traveling to a particular place. Hopefully some of his thoughts will entice you to consider adding this particular place to your itinerary. Most people are extremely surprised to find out that York PA was once the capital of the United States of America. Early in our history the capital was moved from Philadelphia when that city was endangered by British troops. There is still much history to be found in York PA. The city also boasts a large number of historic murals. It is a delight to explore on foot. Include York PA in your Pennsylvania itinerary for at least the following reasons:

1. Interesting murals add color and life to the town of York PA.

2. York PA contains an entire group of restored buildings which are reminiscent of the Colonial Era.

3. York’s Central Market is still a gathering place in the downtown, as it was in the 1700’s.
