We left Tucumcari this morning and headed for Durango, Colorado, where we hope to drive the San Juan Skyway tomorrow. Our trip here brought us through Santa Fe, NM, a place that we loved when here in 2005. This time, however, we just passed through, since we faced a pretty long ride. We also wanted to arrive with some time to get oriented in Durango, which we did with a lovely stroll down Main Avenue. The Old Town is charming, with some interesting architecture and cleverly-named shops.
The wealth of this former mining town is revealed with a drive or walk down 3rd Avenue, replete with large, striking Victorian “cottages.”
