As a long-time Yankee fan (ever since I received a Yankee uniform for my fourth birthday from my father, who passed away later that year), I have visited the Old Yankee Stadium several times. However, I had not been to the new stadium until yesterday.
More importantly, I have always wanted to visit Monument Park, where so many of my Yankee heroes are enshrined.
As a plus, we traveled to Yankee Stadium yesterday to see the New York Yankees versus the Boston Red Sox, Lee’s favorite team. In the process we fulfilled several items on both of our bucket lists. Lee has always wanted to see a Yankee-Red Sox game, and I’ve always wanted to see the monuments.
What a thrill for me to wander among the monuments, recollecting the achievements of Mickey Mantle, my all-time favorite Yankee
and the other great Yankee baseball players over the years.
The ballpark itself is a beautiful facility, well-run and easy to get to.
Yesterday was truly a thrill for me and one that I will cherish for the remainder of my life. And thanks to my cancer for spurring me to do things like this.
