Spotlight on the Olympics — Summer 1928

Now that Boston (right down the road from us) was being considered, albeit for a short time, for the 2024 Olympics, for the first time I might add, let’s take a look at the places where the Olympics have been held over the years.

1928 Summer Olympics — The IX Olympiad was held in Amsterdam, Netherlands from July 28th to August 12th. This was the first time that the Olympic flame was lit to inaugurate the festivities. Johnny Weissmuller won several more gold medals in swimming. Coca Cola became a sponsor of the Olympics for the first time. Once again, America dominated the medal count with 56, 26 of which were gold. The competition was limited to 16 days, a tradition which has continued to the present.
