Now that Boston (right down the road from us) was being considered, albeit for a short time, for the 2024 Olympics, for the first time I might add, let’s take a look at the places where the Olympics have been held over the years.
1948 Summer Olympics — Olympics were not held in 1940 or 1944 because of World War II. The 1940 Olympics were originally awarded to Tokyo, then to Helsinki, before being cancelled. The 1944 Olympics were awarded to London before being cancelled. London was rewarded by hosting the 1948 Olympics from July 29th to August 14th. Bob Mathias of the United States distinguished himself by being the youngest male athlete to win an Olympic gold medal (in the Decathlon). This was the first Olympics broadcast on television.
