Travel Quotation 30 – St Augustine

This quote, from the esteemed St Augustine, is one of my favorites.

"The world is a book, and those who do not travel read only one page."

Obviously, this means that the non-traveler has a narrow-minded view of the world, seeing little diversity and little change in life because he/she never strays far from the familiar. Whereas the traveler is exposed to a wide variety of experiences and cultures and is enhanced by each. He or she is able to get the complete picture of life on our planet and, as a result, can make better decisions and tends to have a more reasonable world-view. Again, one is reminded of the mandate for wealthy young men and women to take the Grand Tour of Europe, to round out their education.
