Travel Quotation 84 — James Michener

Award-winning fiction writer, James Michener, expressed his sentiments about travel in this way. “If you reject the food, ignore the customs, fear the religion, and avoid the people, you might better stay home.”

Here is another in a long line of quotations which attempts to describe (in a rather negative way) the benefits of travel. Since travel is all about sampling the food, observing the customs, learning about the religion, and meeting the people, those who prefer to do none of these should stay home. Travel is simply not for them, and they will get nothing out of it. Thankfully, most humans are curious and courageous about a chance to immerse themselves in another culture..
