For a true taste of the Old South, travel to Charleston SC. The oldest part of town, near the battery, is a delightful place to stroll, full of history and the elegance of the past. Any trip to the Southeastern USA should include a stop in Charleston for at least the following reasons:
1. Walk along the river, down to the Battery to get a glimpse of Old Charleston, with its well-kept homes and yards.
2. Take a boat cruise to Fort Sumter, where the Civil War began back in 1861.
3. Just outside of Charleston SC is Magnolia Plantation, a country home and grounds that is truly reminiscent of the Old South.
