Why Go to Nashville?

Every tourist destination has its attractions. However, because every tourist is different, these attractions have greater or lesser value. In this series Gary gives his reasons for traveling to a particular place. Hopefully some of his thoughts will entice you to consider adding this particular place to your itinerary. The entire series is being categorized under the heading, “Spotlights.” You may find more information about these locations in the archives of this website, under headings such as, “Great Places,” “Things to Do in,” “Best of,” “Top 10” and “Places of a Lifetime.” In addition, there may be “Walking Tours” of these places available for purchase on the website for the low price of $1.49 each.

Although Nashville is typically associated with Country Music, visitors will find that all types of music are part of the scene here because of the many recording studios who are based in Nashville. Those who love music, especially Country-Western, should include Nashville in their USA travel plans for at least the following reasons:

1. The Grand Ole Opry is the oldest, live radio program in the world. It has launched the careers of many of the top Country Western singers. Now that it has moved from its Ryman Auditorium home in downtown Nashville to Opryland, it is a must-do for visitors to the city.

2. The Country-Western Hall of Fame is also, appropriately, located here and is a must-see for fans of that genre.

3. As the capital of Tennessee, Nashville also features a celebration of the state, especially in Bicentennial Park.

4. Curiously, a full scale model of the Parthenon is located on the grounds of Centennial Park.
